What is the purpose of the abstract?

The abstract summarizes the major aspects of your article in a general sequence: (1) the background justification along with the purpose for your study; (2) the experimental design and methods used; (3) the most important findings; and (4) a brief interpretation of the findings and a conclusion or implication. The typical length of your abstract is usually between 150-300 words, but can also vary by journal. Along with the title, the abstract should be written after the manuscript has been written.
