When presenting the findings of a study, the use of this word implies that a statistical test was utilized to make a decision about the data. Thus, you should limit the use of the word significant for this purpose only and not casually use the word when a synonym would suffice instead, i.e., important or noteworthy. If your parenthetical statistical information includes a p value that is significant i.e., p<0.05, then it is unnecessary and redundant to use the word “significant” in that sentence.
